CON03 – Polyethylene Wax
B.A.S.F. ‘A’ Wax.
An acid free white wax in powder form with a melting point of 98 – 108 degrees Celsius and soluble in mineral turps.
Used to consolidate badly corroded cast iron objects recovered from the sea where much of the iron has been dissolved away as iron salts, leaving almost a skeleton of carbon in the form of the original object. Consolidation is achieved with either the wax molten or as a solution in mineral turps.
